New Hotels Coming to Pomona
I’m pleased to report that on November 28th, the Planning Commission approved two new hotel projects in the City.
The Commission approved a 6-story, 215-room Hyatt Place + Hyatt House Hotel with conference center, located off Rancho Camino Drive, adjacent to the 71 and 60 Freeways. The project will take full advantage of its proximity to major freeways in providing lodging accommodations for business and pleasure travelers visiting Pomona and surrounding communities.
Foothill Boulevard will be home to a 3-story, 132-room hotel, tentatively planned to be operated by Wyndham. The project, located just West of Towne Avenue, is a key driver in the regeneration of Foothill Boulevard as an important commercial corridor in the City, and will provide lodging opportunities for business and pleasure travelers to Pomona, Claremont, La Verne, and surrounding communities.
These projects, along with the 149-room Hilton Garden Inn under construction near the Rio Rancho Towne Center, and the 132-room Hilton Doubletree on Temple Avenue which opened earlier this year, have all been approved since 2016 and represent a major boost to the City’s economy. In addition to increased property and sales tax revenue associated with these hotels and their operations, the City’s Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) charges visit ors an additional 10% per room rental. In 2017-18, TOT generated an estimated $2,000,000 in revenue for the City. With the addition of over 625 rooms from these four projects, this revenue stream is expected to double in the next few years.
For too long, this city has lacked facilities capable of generating significant hotel tax revenue and serving visitors to our great city. I am committed to expanding this revenue stream to benefit Pomona residents.
